Upgrading the whole installed system

The upgrade operation is used to get the newest versions of all packages currently installed on the system. Usually, the package manager duty consists in retrieving new available versions of these packages and upgrading them.

Currently RPM does not support this feature, but yum or apt-rpm accomplish this task on many rpm-based distributions. pkgtool on Slackware supports system upgrading, but the administrator must own and specify all the installed packages.
